hyphe-NATIONS: Immigration Matters Community Dialogue

Please join us for the following important community dialogue.

The Latino Community:
Response to shifting demographics

December 8, 7pm, Pangea World Theater Studio

hyphe-NATIONS: Immigration Matters is a multi-year, site specific artistic and community based project dealing with immigration, migration and displacement in our diverse Twin Cities communities, nationally and globally.  This year, we will focus on immigration challenges in the Latino community.  An important human rights issue during the election year, this project looks at how the Latino community has been targeted and marginalized.  Throughout the year, we will host a special series of free forums, dialogues, and panels that will culminate in a theatrical evening with installation art, video, performance art and music in the spring.  Please join us for our first community dialogue Monday, December 8th!

Conference of the Birds, adapted by Meena Natarajan from Farid ud-Din Attar’s poem of the same name, metaphorically maps out the journey of the human spirit in its quest for truth. In this classic tale, the birds of the world are gathered together by their leader, the hoopoe, and told of a legendary King. Inspired by the hoopoe’s tales, the birds take flight on a pilgrimage to find their celebrated King, but the dangers and hardships encountered on the journey cause many in the flock to abandon their search. In the end, the small number that survive realize they have completed a spiritual trek to self-discovery…. The King they sought was within themselves all along.

Pangea World Theater illuminates the human condition, celebrates cultural differences, and promotes human rights by creating and presenting international, multi-disciplinary theater.
