We Do It for the Water
A New Play from the Ikidowin Acting Ensemble

Written by Sharon Day and directed by Curtis Kirby III, with funding from the First Peoples Fund.
This play weaves stories of Indigenous struggles to protect our water, beginning with saving Camp Cold Water Spring, the Mother Earth Water Walks, the Nibi Walks and The North Dakota Access Pipeline. The water walkers and water-protectors presented a non-violent message that united Native people and non-Native environmentalists.
This project will continue the awareness of Indigenous rights and the capacity of the individual to take action for the environment. The Ikidowin Acting Ensemble is performing this original play to amplify this message.The Ikidowin Acting Ensemble will travel to perform for audiences in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
About the Playwright
Sharon Day is enrolled in the Bois Forte Band of Ojibwe. She is a founder of the Indigenous Peoples Task Force. She is the founder of Nibi Walk, indigenous-led walks to raise awareness of our Earth's fresh water. In 1990 Sharon developed and led the first Native youth acting troupe. Since then, Sharon has worked with countless Native youth guiding them to grow as actors. Ms. Day has acted with Pangea World Theater, Illusion Theater, and the American History Theater. In addition, she has directed many youth performances.
About the Director
Curtis Kirby III has directed with Pangea World Theater on “5 Weeks” and with the Ikidowin Acting Ensemble on “Wait” and “My Grandmother’s Love”.
